Maine Coons are cats originating from the United States, from the state of Maine. Some people believe this cat breed comes from a natural breeding a half-wild cat with a raccoon.
It is not yet known the true information regarding the Maine Coons Cat origins, some say the Vikings were the first to bring this cat to North America that was before Columbus come.
Another reference says if a Maine Coons cat is breeding from Marie Antoinette’s cat with his long hair. The cat then brings to the USA. On the ship, the captain breeding the long-haired cat with a short-hair domestic cat.

The first known Maine Coons Cat with reliable reference is in 1861. In 1861, there was a black and white cat with the name of Captain Jenks of the Horse Marines.
Then in 1895, at the Cat event held at Madison Square Garden, there was a female Maine coon called “Best Cat”. Moving to 1908, When the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) was formed, the Maine Coons are a fifth registered cat in the organization and the cat name is Molly Bond.
They’re famous with large size cat, reaching 1 meter tall, and long hair. In fact, among the large cats in the world’s Maine coons is one of them. So that if you want to adopt them as pet you have to think twice about your pocket allocated your money for their food and health care.
